Student Scholarship Awards

One of the fundamental goals of the Scientific Workshops is to promote the educational science that supports the future development of trace explosives, drug detection, forensic applications, use and technical understanding. To achieve this goal, the organizing committee believes it is essential to attract, encourage and foster the development of newer members of our community. With the continual support from corporate and individual sponsors, as well as the Dr. David A. Atkinson Memorial Endowment and Student Scholarship Fund, the Scientific Workshops organization is pleased to offer student scholarship awards to subsidize the costs in attending a Scientific Workshops meeting. The goal of these awards is to enable students and early career researchers to attend and present their work at an upcoming meeting (e.g., TEDD or CED) by offsetting costs.

Student Scholarship Award recipients will be selected for either oral or poster presentations. Note: a limitation of no more than one student per research group will be permitted to receive financial assistance.

The application deadline for a Student Scholarship Award is extended to 5:00 PM (EST), May 1, 2024.

Payment and Amount

For TEDD 2024, the selected applicants will receive grants equal to the full registration fee of $950 USD. The award is neither redeemable as money nor transferable. This year, there will be a maximum of 5 Student Scholarship Awards available.

Eligibility

• At the time of the conference, applicants must be a full-time student (enrolled in a Bachelor, Master, Ph.D. or post-doctorate program).
• Applicants must be the presenting author of an abstract for an oral or poster presentation submitted with the award application. Attendance and presentation by the award recipient at the Scientific Workshop-sponsored meeting are required for the year that the award is granted.
• Prior Student Scholarship Award recipients may apply again. However, priority will be given to first time applicants meeting all requirements. 
• Only one applicant per organization may apply for the Student Scholarship Award. Multiple applications from the same organization are considered ineligible. Separate research groups from the same institution are treated as different organizations. If multiple applications from a single organization are received, we will ask the applicants from the organization to withdraw all but one application.
• A full-time student who wishes to be considered for a Student Scholarship Award must submit an abstract for presentation and a letter of support from the student's research advisor. The letter must state that you are a full-time student in their research group and must provide contact information for the research advisor and the student. Abstracts must meet abstract submission guidelines.

• Please have your abstract of either an oral or a poster presentation ready when completing the online application.
• Student Scholarship Award recipients will be automatically added to the technical program. Authors of submitted abstracts not receiving an award will be contacted by the meeting organizers. You do not need to resubmit the abstract. Please submit abstract(s) for any additional presentation(s) by the regular submission deadline.

Student Scholarship Award Application Review

• All eligible applications will be evaluated based on the scientific merit of the submitted abstract. 
• Scientific Workshops board members and/or program meeting committee members, who are not affiliated with any applicants in the current year, will be selected to review the applications.
